THANK YOU PRESIDENT BIDEN FOR

EXPANDING BERRYESSA

SNOW MOUNTAIN

NATIONAL MONUMENT

A rare & rugged landscape worth protecting.

Join the effort to call on President Biden and Congress to expand Northern California’s Berryessa Snow Mountain National Monument to include Molok Luyuk. Molok Luyuk (pronounced “Ma.lok/ Lue.yoke”) means “Condor Ridge'' in the Patwin language. These public lands are located on the eastern edge of the current monument and are sacred to the Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation.

Protecting Molok Luyuk will help preserve biodiversity and allow for continued wildlife migration in the midst of a changing climate. These lands serve as a critical corridor between the existing monument and other protected areas for species such as tule elk, mountain lions, and black bears. It is also home to dozens of rare plant species. Molok Luyuk deserves permanent protection.

Take Action

Join us in thanking President Biden for protecting this landscape by expanding Berryessa Snow Mountain National Monument.

We are calling on the President and Congress to use all means possible to expand Berryessa Snow Mountain National Monument.

On October 13, 2022, our champions in Congress sent a letter to the White House urging President Biden to use the Antiquities Act to expand the monument and permanently protect Molok Luyuk. Given the urgent need to preserve these public lands, Tribal and community leaders strongly support this call to action to the President.

We are also advocating for legislation to protect Molok Luyuk. These bills would expand the current monument, require cooperative management with Tribes, direct the Bureau of Land Management to draft a management plan, and change the name of the proposed addition from Walker Ridge to Molok Luyuk, Patwin for Condor Ridge:

  • H.R. 1396, the Berryessa Snow Mountain National Monument Expansion Act, was reintroduced in the House of Representatives on March 7, 2023 and is awaiting Committee action. This bill is championed by Representatives Garamendi and Thompson.

  • S. 683, championed by Senators Padilla and Feinstein, was reintroduced to the Senate on March 7, 2023. It passed the Senate Committee on Energy & Natural Resources on May 17, 2023 with unanimous and bipartisan support
